Reliable bases
The structured cable network constitutes the basis for IT systems: each tool
and software element of the system is connected to each other via the cable network
therefore no reliable IT network can exist without high quality cabling. At the
same time, the modification or development of the cable networks is the most difficult
job considering the components of the systems; therefore a reliable cabling network
is of paramount importance.
Synergon delivers turnkey solutions when an offer is requested for structured
cabling. Our skilled advisors will manage any issue including planning, making
an offer, implementation project management or preparing documentation. Our most
important partners are AMP, Brand-Rex and Reichle & De-Massari.
Structured network design
In structured networks every workstation, server, printer or telephone is connected
by a separate cable to the central rack cabinet. The equipment mentioned above
are connected to the terminal sockets by so called patch cables, end these socketscan
be located in the walls, parapet cable trunks or floor boxes as well. The terminal
connectors are connected to the central rack cabinet via wall cables.
In general, there are two cables and two connectors at each endpoint; one is
used for the computer network while the other is maintained for the telephone
system. It is practical to plan one so called RJ45 socket for each 4-5 m2 of floor
space. Every terminal is identified by a number indicated thereon.
The length of the wall cables must not exceed 90 m in order to ensure appropriate
electrical parameters for computer signals.
All wall cables in the building are led to the central rack cabinet where they
are distributed to cable management panels. On these cable management panels,
the specified points of the active network devices can be connected, also by patch
cables, to the cables going toward the PCs of the employees, and at that point
the extensions of the switchboard can be matched with the phone sets. With this
structure the reliability is significantly improved, and, at the same time, the
allocation or reconfiguration of the local network becomes much simpler. For example,
when a workplace is relocated, it is sufficient to reconnect a few patch cables
in the central rack cabinet.
Backbone
A so called backbone connects the star points (distributors) located within the
building. A signal amplifier (repeater) should be integrated or an optical fibre
connection is required wherever the distance between the star points exceeds 100
meters. Considering lightning protection we recommend optical connections between
the buildings.
Copper cables
Less expensive UTP (unshielded twisted pair) cables, FTP (foil screened twisted
pair) cables, which are less sensitive to noise signals, and SFTP (shielded foiled
twisted pair) copper cables are available for establishing a structured network.
Tests, measurements
Each segment of the completed cable network should be tested so that the entire
system can be certified in accordance with the applicable standards. Testing is
carried out by special multifunction instruments. The test results are always
recorded in a test report which constitutes the basis for handing over the physical
network and providing system warranty by the manufacturers.
Office environment
In any modern office environment lasting performance is one of the most important
considerations in addition to network reliability; we should avoid that the bandwidth
provided by cabling will restrict the performance of the network in the future.
Another requirement for cabling is invisibility, as far as possible, in order
to establish an aesthetic, pleasant working environment. With this in mind, cable
routes should be designed circumspectly. With a view to the safety of the employees,
in confined spaces such cables are to be used which, during combustion, do not
generate toxic gases whose concentration exceeds any specified limits.
Industrial environment
For networks operated in an industrial environment, as for every modern IT system,
reliability is the most important requirement. At the same time, cables and routes
must meet some other important requirements because the network must be protected.
System warranty
Synergon strives to achieve that cabling constitutes a stable basis for IT systems
supplied byus. Accordingly, Synergon, through its suppliers, provides a 15-25-year
system warranty for the cable systems installed and this warranty is valid for
the entire network.
WHY SYNERGON?
Our colleagues have manufacturer’s approvals certifications. The structured cabling
they design supports sending any audio or data transmission protocol (e.g. telephone,
fax, ISDN, RS232, ATM, Ethernet, 10-100-1000Mb/s-10Gb/s.), therefore the range
of applications are very wide. Since several types of systems and equipment may
be operated in a structured network, within a building less parallel cable systems
should be installed than in case of the old, obsolete systems, i.e. the cabling
of the building becomes more transparent.
Coordinating larger projects require serious preparations. Our colleagues who
have IPMA classifications can handle such challenge.
All structured cabling we install come with documentation, which contain measurements,
further information and if needed we can create full NetViz documentations.
Beside of that our colleagues have the proper experience we possess qualified
measurements, and we use calibrated structural- and optical equipments that accommodate
the high quality installations we make.
